Guest Speaker 2011 - Army Major Gregory P. Keeney

            Major Keeney, Guest Speaker 2011Major Greg Keeney is a Military Intelligence officer in the United States Army. He recently returned from Afghanistan where he served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as the Deputy G2 (Intelligence) for the Combined Joint Task Force-101 over the last year. He is the son of Alexander and Mary Catherine (Adams) Keeney of Littlestown, PA, nephew of Monsignor George Adams and grandson of George and Anna (Karaffa) Adams of Brockway, PA. He is married to the former Kelly Day of Erie, PA and they have three sons, Jacob (12), Braden (6) and Karsten (3). He is a 1986 graduate of Littlestown (PA) High School. He and his wife are 1992 graduates of Clarion University of Pennsylvania. In addition to earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Clarion, he has also earned a Master of Arts in National Security Studies with honors from American Military University.

            Greg enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves in 1987 where he served for six years and participated in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1993 and attended Officer Candidate School where he received his commission on 22 January 1998. His twenty-three years of military service includes assignments with a multitude of distinguished units to include the following: 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY; 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Richardson, AK; the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Meade, MD; 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Lewis, WA; 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, KY; 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY. He is a ‘plank owner’, founding member, of the 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) which was established on 05 December 2006 at Fort Lewis, WA.

            He has served in the following duty positions: Deputy Brigade S3 (Plans) for Intelligence and Electronic Warfare, Assistant Battalion Intelligence Officer, Battalion Intelligence Officer, Assistant Battalion S3 (Operations), Company Commander, Deputy Brigade S3 (Operations), Special Operations Task Force Intelligence Officer and Division Deputy Intelligence Officer.

            His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Royal Thai Airborne Wings, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge-Gold, the Norwegian Marksmanship Badge-Bronze. His service includes tours to Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Norway, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. He participated in peacekeeping operations in the Middle East as a member of the Multinational Force and Observers, Sinai, Egypt. Lastly, he has participated in multiple combat tours in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraq Freedom over the last 10 years.

            Major Keeney and his family currently reside at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was recently selected to participate in an Interagency Fellowship program and will be assigned to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, National Counter Terrorism Center in Washington, DC.
